These are the terms for using chessbranching.com. They are written to be read, not to be skipped.
Use it for chess. Do not attack it or resell it. Your studies are yours and we claim nothing over them. We do not promise that the site never goes down or that the engine is right. If you subscribe, you are buying from Dodo Payments rather than from us, and their terms cover the purchase. You can delete your account, and everything in it, at any time.
Chess Branching is a tool for building and studying chess repertoires, drawn as a branching diagram. It runs in your browser. An account, which is optional, keeps your studies on our server so they are available on your other devices.
It is a tool for your own study. It is not chess coaching, not advice, and not a promise about how any game of yours will go.
If an account is doing one of these, we may suspend or close it. Where we can, we will say why and give a chance to put it right first; where the service is actively being harmed, we may act first and explain afterwards.
We claim no ownership of anything you create here. Your studies, your notes and your move trees remain yours. We store them only in order to run the service for you — to show them back to you and to keep them in step across your devices. We do not read them for any other purpose, do not use them to train anything, and do not show them to anyone else.
Everything you make can be exported as standard PGN, which opens in any chess program. Nothing you build here is locked in, and that is deliberate.
The service is provided as it is. In particular:
Keep your own copies of anything that matters. Export PGN exists for exactly that, and it takes one click.
A free account keeps a limited number of studies; a subscription removes the limit. Nothing is ever deleted when a subscription ends — studies beyond the free allowance are locked rather than removed, and subscribing again unlocks them untouched.
You are buying from Dodo Payments, not from us. Dodo Payments is the merchant of record: they are the seller on the receipt, they collect and remit the sales tax or VAT for your country, and the purchase itself is governed by their buyer terms, including everything to do with refunds and the right of withdrawal.
You can delete your account from inside the app, under your email address in the top corner. It asks for your password, and then the account and everything in it is deleted at once — there is no waiting period and no undo. Export anything you want to keep first. What this does and does not reach is set out on the privacy page.
We may close an account that breaks these terms, as described above. If we close the service itself, we will give notice in advance.
To the extent the law allows, our liability to you is limited to what you have paid us in the twelve months before the problem arose — which, for a free account, is nothing. We are not liable for indirect losses: a lost game, a lost tournament, time spent, or work you did not keep a copy of.
Nothing here takes away rights you have as a consumer under the law of the country you live in. Those rights apply whatever this page says.
If these terms change, the “last updated” date above changes with them, and significant changes will be noted on this page. Continuing to use the service after a change means the new terms apply. If you do not agree with a change, you can delete your account.
These terms are governed by the law of the Republic of Türkiye, and disputes about them belong to the Turkish courts. This covers your use of the service. The purchase itself is a separate contract with Dodo Payments and is governed by their terms.
